A free Spiritual Sound Journey comes to Brentwood Cathedral at 4pm on Sunday 11 October: singing bowls, crystal harp, guitar and poetry, led by Alex Sawyer.

A free “Spiritual Sound Journey” will be held at Brentwood Cathedral at 4pm on Sunday 11 October, led by Alex Sawyer, who grew up in Brentwood and has spent the past 18 years living abroad.

Admission is free, according to the poster. Alex describes the hour as a space for relaxation and reflection, and says it is not tied to any one religion.

What happens at a sound journey

Alex plays a mix of acoustic instruments and reads between them. In their own words, the event “combines classical guitar, Tibetan singing bowls, crystal harp, frame drum and other acoustic instruments with poetry and wisdom drawn from philosophers and thinkers across history.”

The poster’s billing is “Poetry, Music, and Timeless Wisdom”.

From Brentwood to Burning Man

Alex wrote to us to say how they came to it:

“I grew up in Brentwood, before leaving to explore and live all over the world 18 years ago. I discovered ‘sound journeys’ in South Africa and have been performing them ever since, from playing to thousands of secondary students in Hong Kong, to festivals including Burning Man (USA), Bali Bloom (Indonesia) and Playground (Germany).”

On the Brentwood date, they said:

“It’s a free event, designed to provide a space for relaxation and reflection, rather than being tied to a religion.”
